MFCP Delivers Custom Hydraulic System for Robotic Construction Technologies’ Mobile 3D Printing Platform
Robotic Construction Technologies (RCT), based in Denver, Colorado, is on the leading edge of large-scale additive manufacturing. Their mobile 3D printing platform is designed to build essential structures such as water tanks and barracks in remote environments where speed, mobility, and self-sufficiency are critical.
To make that vision a reality, RCT needed a custom hydraulic power unit (HPU) engineered to deliver consistent, high-performance operation under tough conditions. That is where MFCP came in.
Custom Built for Off-Grid Construction
RCT’s platform is designed to roll off a trailer, deploy self-leveling outriggers, and begin printing within hours. To support this capability, MFCP’s Bakersfield Center of Excellence was tasked with designing and building a compact, mobile, and rugged HPU tailored to RCT’s exact flow and pressure requirements.
The final design featured a custom manifold, precision pressure control, and all components housed in a durable frame built for transport and field use.
Engineering Through Real World Challenges
Like many first builds, the project came with a few unexpected setbacks. A factory defect in the original pump caused delays, followed by torque limiter issues that required additional troubleshooting. MFCP’s fluid power sales team sourced a replacement pump through the Parker distributor network, and our engineering team performed a full system check to diagnose a pressure issue.
After recommending a valve adjustment, the team successfully brought the unit up to spec. Final testing confirmed the system was ready for full operation.

The completed HPU has been delivered to RCT and is now supporting the next phase of field testing. The system meets all performance and mobility goals and helps power the future of automated construction in remote environments.
